The outside appearance of our homes is very important to us. One of the key features of any home is the windows and doors. Attractive windows and doors can really make your home stand out from your neighbours. However due to the UK climate if you have traditional timber framed windows and doors then to keep them looking as good as possible they will require painting every couple of years. However a popular choice now is to replace these with uPVC windows and uPVC doors which only require wiping with soap and water every so often to keep them looking as good as new.

uPVC windows and uPVC doors are built using double glazing which as the name suggests is basically built using two panes of glass which are then sealed together with a gap left between the two panes. It is this gap which acts as an insulator meaning that uPVC windows and uPVC doors are far more energy efficient than traditional timber framed windows and doors.

uPVC windows and doors are also highly attractive, they come in a wide range of styles and colours meaning there is a style to suit virtually any property. If you live in an older property and you are concerned about losing the character of the property then there are styles such as uPVC sash windows which are made to look like traditional timber framed sash windows but benefit from all the advantages of uPVC. You can even get uPVC windows and doors which are made to look like real wood.

It is important that your windows and doors fit with the style of the rest of your house to ensure your home is as attractive as possible. Many people now have uPVC conservatories fitted in their homes id you do you should try to ensure that your conservatory and windows and doors all match otherwise your property may look mix matched and cluttered from the outside.

Having attractive windows and doors can make a huge difference to the overall appearance of your home. If your windows and doors are starting to look old and tired you should definitely consider installing uPVC windows and uPVC doors.

For the latest offers on uPVC Windows and uPVC Doors visit www.conservatoryoutlet.co.uk or freephone 0800 915 8844 today!

The UK Double Glazing industry is seeing a steady uptake in the development of more energy efficient uPVC Windows since the introduction of the new window ratings system by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC).

The BFRC Scheme is the UK’s national system for rating the energy efficiency of windows and is recognised within the Building Regulations as a method to show compliance for your replacement windows installation.

Window Energy Ratings use a consumer-friendly traffic-light style A-E ratings guide similar to that used on ‘white’ goods (such as fridges, freezers, washing machines etc…). This ratings label can be used by you to make more informed choices about the energy efficiency of the windows you are looking to purchase.

With carbon emissions high on the global agenda and the current high cost of fuel, we are all looking for ways to make our homes more energy efficient.

Fabricators and installers of uPVC windows in the UK have been developing a variety of energy rated windows since the scheme was established, and consumers are becoming more aware.

Matthew Glover, the Managing Director of Conservatory Outlet Ltd, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of double glazing and conservatories is delighted with the progress in the market, and at his company.

‘We’ve found that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to improve the energy efficiency of their properties, and see their windows as a key element in reducing CO2 emissions,’ states Matthew Glover. ‘We have seen a 10 fold increase in sales over the last 12 months, with most people opting for the most energy efficient A Rated windows’.
Simply put the new energy rated labels will determine how well a product will perform the functions of helping households contain and conserve heat within buildings in the winter, keep out the wind, resist condensation and contribute to improved sound insulation.

Buildings that are single glazed or the double glazing was installed prior to April 2002 then they could be losing more heat than necessary, and therefore money, literally out of the window. However, by switching to Energy Efficient Windows householders can save energy and reduce household bills by as much as £461 per year (according to the BFRC).
If you live in a single glazed house and install Energy Efficient Windows, you could reduce the energy you use by 0.30 tonnes or 18% – almost reaching the Government target of 20% reduction per household. Add to this other simple energy saving measures – such as insulating your home and turning down the central heating by 1° C – and you could be making a real impact on reducing your carbon footprint.

Conservatory Outlet have produced new literature to explain the benefits of choosing energy efficient windows, and have added more detail to their website – Energy Efficient Windows

Conservatory Outlet pride ourselves on the quality of our Double Glazing Windows and Doors we supply.

Many people have older Sash Windows that let in draughts and let out heat. Many people also don’t realise that their doors may also need replacing. Replacing these draughty windows or doors with new Double Glazed products can save a huge amount on heating bills in the long run. They will also provide a more aesthetically pleasing addition to your home and can be very easily maintained.

I’m Worried About The Mess

When installing Replacement Windows, it depends on the state and age of your old windows, as well as what is being replaced. If it is just the sash that is being replaced there should be very little dust. However, if you are replacing the entire frame the amount of mess will depend on the level of work required to the interior walls.

But you need not worry at all, dust sheets will be placed down and everything will be as clean as it was before. So even if there is a hundred years or so worth of dust to be replaced along with your windows, we will make sure that none of it is left in your home.

As a nation of home owners we all tend to be proud of our homes. Therefore much of our leisure time is spent making improvements to our property. There are several things which we can do to improve the outside of our properties but arguably the thing which can make the biggest difference is to install Replacement Windows and Double Glazing. The great thing about replacement windows and double glazing is that they will not only improve the aesthetics of your home but they will also help to add value to your property and reduce bills.

If you live in an older property then the likelihood is that you will lose a lot of heat through your windows. They are likely to be poorly insulated and there maybe gaps and cracks in the frames that you may not even realise. Replacement Windows and double glazing will help to solve this problem. As the name suggests double glazing is made from two panes of glass with a small gap between them and they are then sealed. It is actually the gap in between the two panes which acts as an insulator and helps to keep the heat in your home. Replacement windows are now commonly made using uPVC frames therefore eliminating the issue with them rotting or cracking like traditional timber framed windows.

When it comes to improving the look of your home, replacement windows come in a variety of styles and colours meaning that there is a style to complement virtually any house. Our Window Colours range gives you a lot of options to match the style of your property perfectly. If you live in a tradition property then there are uPVC windows available which are made to look like traditional sash or Georgian Windows. If however you live in a modern property there are a range of colours to choose from such as grey, green, cream, rustic cherry or black to help give your home a truly contemporary look.

In this day and age saving the planet, rightfully so, is a buzz topic. This means it’s a topic that currently has a lot of coverage and interest to many people. So moving along with this there are many things we can do as individuals that can help to save the planet and make a big difference. The following are some examples of how you can help to do your bit:

· Use energy saving light bulbs. Also make sure to turn off lights when you are not in a room – It sounds simple but it is these little changes that can make a big difference.

· Installing Double Glazing will drastically reduce the amount of heat lost from your home therefore help to lower the amount of gas and electricity that’s needed to heat your home.

· uPVC doors and windows will also reduce the amount of heat lost from your home. They also will not require to be treated every couple of years often the paints used for treating windows and doors are not environmentally friendly.

· The roof is another weak spot in your home therefore insulating your loft to the recommended depth of 270mm can save you energy and money.

· Another extra is f you live in an older property, cavity wall insulation helps to keep the heat inside your home therefore lowering the amount of heat you need to generate and lowering your energy bills.

· Older conservatories can also be another weak spot in the home therefore installing internal Replacement Doors can help to keep the heat inside the main house in the colder months of the year.

· Have a shower rather than a bath. Showers use far less water than baths which therefore reduces the amount of energy used.

· Only put the washing machine on when you have a full load ready to wash.

· If the weather is dry then think about drying your clothes outside rather than in the tumble dryer.

If all of us did just some of these then we would reduce the amount of energy used by a huge percentage and help mother earth in the process.

At the moment every time we turn the news on or pick up the newspapers there seems to be a depressing story about falling property prices and how it is becoming harder and harder to sell your home. The boom is finally over and no longer can you rely on your property going up in value as time goes by. Therefore if you are in a position where you are looking to sell your property to ensure you get the best price for it you need to make sure that it is in as good condition as possible.

One of the most important things to consider is the curb appeal of your house. Usually before most people even book an appointment to come and view your house they will come and drive past and have a look at your property from the outside. Therefore making sure the outside of your home is as attractive as possible is very important. If you have a fence in front of your property a lick of paint could help and you should tidy up the garden. A couple of well placed plants in pots by the front door do not have to cost the earth but can make a big difference. Then look at the outside of your home, is the guttering, roof and paint work in good condition?

Ask any estate agent what buyers are looking for in a property and many of them will tell you that high up on many potential buyers wish lists is replacement windows and doors. Most people now understand the benefits of double glazing and how it is energy efficient and low maintenance. Therefore if your house does not have replacement windows and doors and does not benefit from double glazing then having it fitted could make your home more appealing to potential buyers. Replacement windows and double glazing will not only help to improve the outside of your home but they will improve the look of your replacement windows from the inside as well.

Once you have got the buyer through the door your need to ensure that the appeal of the outside of your house is carried on in the inside of your home. If you have a lot of possessions it may be worth boxing up some of the non essential items and putting them into storage as you want to make your home feel as spacious as possible. If some of the decor is looking tired, redecorating does not have to cost the earth but remember not to decorate to your own to taste but that neutral colours are likely to be more appealing to potential buyers.

The layout of your home is also very important even if you do not have a very big house if you can try to show separate areas which can be used as living space, a dining area, kitchen etc this will help the buyer to imagine living there themselves. The amount of space in your home is also important if you can afforded it adding a Conservatory to your home has proven time after time to add value to properties.

Conservatories are seen as a really luxury and can help to make your property to stand out from other similar properties. The best thing about conservatories is that they do not need to cost the earth either and often people report getting back more than the initial outlay when they sell their home.

Selling a home is rarely easy, however you can make it easier on yourself by making your property more attractive and more sellable. Asking your estate agent their advice can also help to ensure you are making the changes which will get you the best return on your investment.

Research shows that 31 percent of brits injure themselves when tackling some sort of home improvement. The solution to make sure it doesn’t happen to you is quite simple:

Don’t do it yourself!

The latest figures from SAGA show that one in ten over 50 year olds have tried to tackle a major home improvement project themselves. Around a third of them injuring themselves during the work.

Andrew Leech, the director at the National Home Improvement Council, said that such jobs should be left to only professionals.

“There are certain things which the average DIY person can do without any problem at all, but if they are talking about major projects such as roofing, plumbing, electrical installations and so on, then really they should involve a professional,” he said.

“Not only from the point of view of getting the job well done, but also from a safety point of view too.”

Conservatories in particular should definitely be installed by professionals.
