Whether you have lived in your home for two years or twenty two years there are very few people who would not like more space. However moving house to a bigger property is not always practical. Not only is moving house very expensive but it may also mean leaving the area where you feel settled, have made friends and put down roots. If you have plenty of outdoor space then a great option is to extend your current home. Although adding a traditional brick built extension can be very expensive adding a conservatory or orangery to your home is not only affordable but will give you that much needed extra living space you need.

Modern uPVC conservatories have become very popular over the past twenty years. They not only add much needed extra living space but they also have a light and airy feel like no other room in your home. They help to bridge the gap between your home and you garden allowing to make the most of your garden whatever the weather. Due to double glazing used in the construction of uPVC conservatories they are now far more energy efficient and cheaper to heat making them a space which can be used 365 days a year. They can also be used for virtually any purpose so if you need extra room for a study, play room, dining area or living room a uPVC could be the answer. uPVC conservatories are also probably the cheapest way of extending your home and not only will they add space but also value to your property if you decide to sell in the future.

However if you want the latest trend to hit the home improvement market then you need to consider orangeries. The forefather of the conservatory the orangery is making a comeback. Originally only afforded by the very wealthy developments have been made in the construction industry and orangeries are now an affordable way of adding extra living space to your home. Orangeries have a more substantial feel than a conservatory due to the brick or stone pillars used in the construction. Orangeries are available in both traditional and modern contemporary styles depending on your own personal taste.

If you decide to extend your home then of course you can add a traditional brick built extension. However by adding a uPVC conservatory or orangery you will be adding a room like no other in your house which will allow you to enjoy your garden 365 days a year. Whilst giving you that much needed extra living space.

Conservatory Outlet specialise in the manufacture and installation of the latest energy saving Conservatories and custom built Orangeries throughout Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Shropshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Over the past couple of decades there has been a boom in the popularity of conservatories and orangeries. The conservatory and orangery manufacturers soon cottoned on to the increase in popularity and there is now a wider choice of designs and styles of conservatory and orangery available than ever.

However, in order for you conservatory or orangery to be a space which you can use 365 days a year and as cost effective as possible it is important to ensure it is well insulated. Traditionally conservatories and orangeries were very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. To prevent this it is important that you select appropriate windows. Installing double glazing is a must as double glazing is very energy efficient helping to keep the heat in therefore lowering your energy bills. Double glazing will also help to improve the security of your conservatory or orangery as it is much stronger and harder to break than traditional single glazed windows.

Due to the nature of the way orangeries are built they are usually more energy efficient than conservatories as they tend to have less glazed areas. However, modern uPVC conservatories are a cost effective alternative to orangeries. Due to the uPVC frame and double glazing uPVC conservatories are very energy efficient. uPVC conservatories are also relatively cheap and easy to construct and usually far cheaper than an orangery. However orangeries have a more substantial feel to them than a conservatory therefore it depends on personal preference to whether you would be more suited to a conservatory or orangery.

uPVC conservatories and orangeries are a fantastic addition to any home and can add much needed living space and they can also add value to your property. However making sure that it is a space that you can use throughout the year will make sure that you get the most out of your investment.

Conservatory Outlet specialise in the manufacture and installation of the latest energy saving Conservatories, Orangeries, Double Glazing Replacement Windows and Doors – supplying a network of home improvement companies throughout Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Shropshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Orangeries Are the New Conservatories

During the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s up until the early 2000s we saw a huge increase in the amount of people installing conservatories to the homes. This was mainly due to improvements in technology. uPVC and double glazing has meant that not only can conservatories be manufactured much more quickly and cheaply they are also much more energy efficient making them not only cheaper to install but also cheaper to run. A conservatory is now a space that can be used throughout the year.

However as with all things fashions change and technology moves on. We are now starting to see a huge increase in the popularity of orangeries. Orangeries are very similar to conservatories in a lot of ways. They are light and airy spaces which are like no other room in your house making them a truly unique space. They include large windows and glass roofs like a conservatory allowing the light to flood in.

They do however differ from conservatories in many ways. They tend to built using brick or stone pillars to support the roof this helps to give them a more substantial feel. Large windows are then fitted between these pillars allowing natural light to fill the orangery and giving fantastic views of the garden. Many modern orangeries also include a large pelmet which runs around the top of the orangery and roof sits on top of this pelmet. From the inside the roof is part plastered and part glazed. This means that spot lights can be sunk into this pelmet creating a truly modern feel.

Orangeries Orangery Conservatory Orangeries

A common feature of an orangery is also to add double French doors this allows access to garden from the orangery. For a truly modern look some people are choosing to install bi fold doors in to their orangery. When open bi fold doors really open up your orangery. If decking is installed outside the orangery at the same level as the flooring inside the orangery it can be difficult to know where the orangery ends and the garden begins.

It is easy to see why orangeries are becoming so popular it is the natural progression on from a conservatory. Fashions and trends will always change and orangeries are a contemporary space which will improve the overall feel of any home.

You have done the hard part deciding that you want to have a conservatory or orangery built. Now comes the fun part, actually designing your conservatory. Modern conservatories come in every shape and size possible. As a good place to start go on the internet and look at the different styles available. Worth looking at are a few popular styles including Victorian conservatories which benefit from a pitched roof and a rounded front which has either three or five angled windows which makes the conservatory very aesthetically pleasing. Alternatively you may be more tempted by Edwardian conservatories which are easily recognisable by their square or rectangular bases. These are great as they make maximum use of the space available. Or Mediterranean conservatories are a good option if you have a restriction on height such as in a bungalow as they have a shallow sloping roof. Or you may prefer something more modern, then a tailor made bespoke conservatory may be suited to you.

Orangeries Conservatories Conservatory Orangeries

Orangeries represent the ideal combination of the benefits and looks of conservatories and more conventional extensions. They are wonderfully light and airy spaces due to the glazed roofs as well as being cosy and inviting throughout the year.

For this reason orangeries will provide a unique living space. Recently we have seen a significant growth in popularity – customers who might have opted for a bespoke conservatory or brick extension are now just as likely to choose an orangery.

When you are picking the style of your new conservatory or orangery you need to think about the layout. How is it going to link to your home? Do you want to include external doors that lead into your garden? If so French doors are a great option however French doors can take up a lot of room so you need to ensure that there is space for them. When you have considered all these factors you need to ensure that these will be possible with the style of conservatory you have chosen. Your Conservatory Outlet retailer will be able to advise you on this.

Once you have decided on the style of the conservatory or orangery you want you can now customise it. If you are going for a  conservatory or orangery then double glazing comes as standard. Double glazing is fantastic as it is not only durable and excellent at keeping the heat in but it can also be customised to make it truly unique to you. You can choose from leaded glass, bevelled glass or even stained glass. Then there is the uPVC frame you can choose either brilliant white or wood effect such as oak or mahogany.

It is important that you take your time when choosing a conservatory or orangery – you are likely to have it for a very long time so the extra effort made now to ensure you get it right will pay dividends in the future.

OK so you’ve got the latest fifty inch flat screen television, black granite kitchen work tops and an Italian leather corner sofa. So you think your home is at the cutting edge of fashion when it comes to having all the latest trends. Or is it? The latest trend is to have an orangery attached to the back of your property. Similar to conservatories, an orangery is fast becoming the must have accessory for uber trendy homes. However orangeries are not a new thing at all.

Orangeries Orangery Conservatory Orangeries

Orangeries were actually very popular amongst the upper classes they were found in the grounds of fashionable residences during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. As the name suggests they were used as a place to grow citrus trees as they could not survive outside during the winter in the UK climate. With the increase in travel around the globe orangeries became more popular as explorers brought seeds and plants back from around the world which in order to survive needed to be housed inside yet needed the maximum daylight possible.

The orangery soon became a symbol of status no longer were they just used for practical purposes. They became an important feature of the garden as owners would take their guests on tours of their orangeries to admire the exotic fruits and plants. Very soon orangeries themselves started to become more lavish and were admired as part of the tour. The orangery became an area to entertain in inclement weather.

This was the beginning of what we now know as an orangery today which is often referred to as the next generation of conservatory. There are however subtle differences between a conservatory and a orangery. An orangery is actually a cross between what we think of as a traditional extension and a conservatory. They benefit from glass roofs which make them feel very light and airy yet the stone or brick columns used to support the roof of the orangery help to create a substantial structure which is cosy and useable throughout the year.

An orangery creates a really unique space and offers a great alternative to a conventional brick extension or conservatory. For this reason they are becoming more and more popular. Orangeries can really help to add space to your house and can be used for many different purposes. They are a great place to relax in with your family but equally can be brilliant for entertaining friends and neighbours. By adding French doors to your orangery it can help to bridge the gap between your house and garden and can be great for summer BBQs when it gets a little chilly outside but you don’t really want to go inside.

Orangeries come in a whole host of shapes and sizes and can be built out of a variety of different materials so you are bound to find a style which is in keeping with the rest of your home. You can choose to have a standard orangery installed or alternatively you can choose to have a custom made bespoke orangery built to fit in with your own personal specifications.

There is one thing that we Brits love and that is our homes. We are a very house proud nation, you only have to turn the television on and there are a whole host of popular programmes dedicated to home improvement. It all started in the nineties with programmes such as Changing Rooms, Handy Andy and Linder Barker became household names and as a nation we became obsessed with stencilling anything and everything. However time moved on and our tastes became a little more discerning and the quality of the programmes improved until today where programmes such as Grand Designs have become very popular focusing more on the high end of the market.

Conservatory Orangery Conservatories French Doors

However one thing has remained constant throughout this time and that is that we are all obsessed with these shows and improving our homes. More so now than ever in the current economic climate, with house prices falling like they never have before people are reluctant to move house so they are deciding to stay put and improve the property they are living in. One of the major driving factors for many people when they decide to move house is that they want more living space. Well the obvious option might be to add an extension to your home. However extensions can often be very costly and a much cheaper option would be to add a conservatory to your property. You will get the added space of a traditional extension but the truly unique light and airy feel of a conservatory.

With the invention of uPVC, conservatories have become affordable and readily available. However no longer are you restricted to just white when you choose to have a uPVC conservatory fitted. uPVC conservatories are now available in a range of colours including wood effects such as oak and mahogany, or choose from a range of solid colours. There are also many different styles of conservatories to choose from including the very popular Victorian conservatory which has a pitched roof and 3 or 5 angled windows at the front making them easily recognisable. An Edwardian uPVC conservatory also has a pitched roof but a square or rectangular base. However many properties such as bungalows have restricted height space so in these situations a Mediterranean conservatory with a sloping roof may be more appropriate. Or maybe you have special requirement such as a strange shape are restricted space then a bespoke tailor made and designed conservatory may be more to your liking.

Once you have decided on a style of uPVC conservatory then comes the fun bit you get to customise your conservatory. French doors should definitely be considered. French doors help to open up your conservatory and they can be really beneficial in the summer months when you are entertaining as they help to bridge the gap between your house and the garden. French doors will also give another access point to your house this can be really useful if say you back door is in your kitchen as it will help to stop people from traipsing through the kitchen whilst you are trying to cook. Then there is the glass do you want plain glass or maybe you should consider stained glass are patterned glass. You can even choose the style of handles used on the windows and doors in your conservatory. The possibilities are endless and your really can make a big difference to you property by adding a uPVC conservatory.

Conservatory Outlet, the largest installer of Conservatories in North England is stepping up its TV advertising campaign.

In 2008 a series of adverts on television shot Andrew Glover, the face of Conservatory Outlet, in the Yorkshire region, using the catchphrase, ‘You better be quick, these deals can’t last forever’, Conservatory Outlet promoted a series of special offers on their Conservatories and Energy Efficient uPVC Windows.

The emphasis was on encouraging the public to visit Conservatory Outlet showrooms in Harrogate, York, Wakefield, Mirfield and Leeds. Also, the adverts drove traffic to the website and telephone enquiries to the call handling centers.

The adverts were soon rolled out to the Granada TV region with Chris Mitchell at the front of this regional campaign. The format was the same, but with different offers for the conservatory showrooms in Preston, Kendal and Holmes Chapel.

Matthew Glover, the Managing Director of Conservatory Outlet stated, “Although its not cheap to advertise on ITV, we have found that the formula of having a front man explaining the latest special offers really drives interest to our website and showrooms.
