Large P Shape Conservatory Design with a Roman theme
When Visual Effect were asked by a customer in Mirfield, West Yorkshire to design a 'Roman' style conservatory they were at first a bit shocked. They had installed hundreds of 'Edwardian' and 'Victorian' conservatories, but never a 'Roman' conservatory!
The customer was keen to incorporate stone columns within a very large P Shape design on this award winning conservatory in Mirfield. The conservatory is approximately 13 metres wide and over 7 metres in projection, and was obviously put through building control and required planning permission, which was organised by Visual Effect Conservatories. You can see from the design, uPVC conservatories can easily compare with the more lavish hardwood conservatory designs, if they are well specified and designed.
The P-Shape design has a 5 facet (bay) front with a box gutter to the rear, for attaching to the bungalow below the existing eaves. The conservatory has been manufactured in Rosewood uPVC with Smart Poly inserts in the 35mm polycarbonate roof panels, and Solaris high specification double glazed units in the wall frames.
The conservatory base was built using stone from the same quarry used to source the stone for the original house, and incorporates stone sills and quoins to match the existing house. The floor has been constructed using the block and beam method.
What makes this conservatory really stand out is the internal artificial stone columns which have been installed under the box gutter to two sides, and then following the frames on all other elevations. A timber plinth on top of the columns has been installed to give the effect that the columns are supporting the roof structure, but they're mainly for show, although they do serve a purpose by helping support the box gutter. There are downlights installed in the plinth and uplights at a lower level to ensure the conservatory is well lit in the evenings.
The conservatory has been designed for all year round use with underfloor heating helping to keep the conservatory nice and warm in the summer, and Smart Poly solar inserts installed in the roof panels to reflect the majority of the sun's heat.
Visual Effect are the Conservatory Outlet dealer for the Mirfield area and install all types of designs of conservatories in the West Yorkshire area, and also fit uPVC double glazing, windows and doors. You can see from the pictures, Visual Effect are not phased by larger, more complex conservatory designs.
